The Medical Devices Regulation regulates the quality and safety of medical devices at European level. CANNEFF suppositories are class 2a medical devices. They have been registered and approved by a Notified Body and meet all requirements to ensure the safety of the product.
CANNEFF suppositories are European products and are manufactured by CB21 Pharma s.r.o. in the Czech Republic.
CBD is allowed in approved medical products and is available over the counter.
A medicinal effect may only be attributed to approved medicinal products, as the effect and safety have been verified by studies. Already approved medicines with CBD are used for epilepsy and multiple sclerosis, as CBD has an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect. However, this does not mean that all products with CBD have these effects and alleviate diseases.
Medical products with CBD such as the CANNEFF suppositories have a medical benefit. This range of effects is explained in the product descriptions.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists of two primary receptors - CB1 and CB2 - as well as a variety of lesser known receptors such as the GPR18, GPR55 and GPR119 receptors and enzymes such as FAAH (fatty acid amide hydrolase). CB1 and CB2 receptors are found throughout the body, CB1 receptors are mostly found on neurons and regulate e.g. neuronal activity and CB2 receptors are mainly found on immune cells.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex physiological system was first described in 1992 by a research team of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH, Bethesda, Maryland/USA) led by William Devane and Dr. Lumir Hanus in collaboration with the Israeli scientist Raphael Mechoulam. The ECS is an endogenous regulatory system of the nervous and immune system that can significantly influence the functions of memory, appetite, metabolism, temperature regulation, stress behaviour, immune response, pain perception and motivation. This happens through the production of endocannabinoids, such as anandamide and 2-AG, which can then bind to the receptors to have a regulating effect. CBD, among other plant substances, can also bind to these receptors and is therefore also called a phyto-cannabinoid.
In research, there is justified hope that targeted interventions in the body's own endocannabinoid metabolism will open up new therapeutic approaches. But more research is needed for this.
